FAQs

The price of an embroidery piece reflects how much work goes into it. That's roughly a function of:
SIZE X RESOLUTION X COMPLEXITY

Nope. I usually work on an embroidery hoop using linen, canvas or calico fabrics but the final piece can be any shape you like. I sometimes work on square or rectangular mounted canvas but these pieces tend to be lower in resolution due to the nature of the fabric.

"Resolution" refers to the amount of detail you can squeeze into a given area. Embroidery stitches are made with 1-6 threads threaded together through a needle. The fewer threads you use, the higher the resolution...and the longer it will take to stitch! However, lower resolution doesn't mean lower quality. It just gives a different effect.

This is the set of colours used in a piece. Palettes can be monochrome (2 tones of 1 colour), limited (2-6 colours) or full (as many colours as needed). They can be vibrant, subdued or realistic.

This could refer to beading, stuffing or stumpwork among other techniques. Stumpwork is made using wires, sewn onto a separate piece of fabric before it is embroidered over. These sections are then cut out and sewn onto the final piece, forming posable elements.

Yes, I usually do. Choose photos that have interesting hues, good contrast and not too many fine details. If in doubt, send me a few and we can discuss which works best!

Sure! We can choose a style, size and resolution that works for your budget - within reason. Embroidery is time-consuming work. The most important factor in pricing is how long a piece will take.

Erm... probably not. I need a at least 3 weeks for a small low-res piece and much, much longer for something larger and more complex!
